How to Choose a Size for Custom Pet Portrait Apparel

Size labels are only a starting point. Compare the measurements and intended fit of the exact shirt or hoodie before you order.

Use the exact product guide

A medium in one garment is not guaranteed to match a medium in another. The catalog includes lightweight tees, structured tees, semi-fitted womenโ€™s cuts, relaxed cuts, standard pullovers, oversized hoodies, and a full-zip layer. Each product page shows the available sizes and its own fit or measurement information.

Choose the product first, then use that productโ€™s guide. Do not copy a size from a different brand or assume that every unisex item shares a pattern. If you are between sizes, decide whether the intended result is closer, regular, relaxed, or layered before selecting.

Measure a garment that already fits

The most useful comparison is often a shirt or hoodie the wearer already likes. Lay it flat without stretching it, smooth the fabric, and compare the same measurement points shown in the product guide. Garment measurements and body measurements are different, so make sure you are comparing like with like.

Keep normal variation in mind. Fabric and manufacturing can create small differences from one finished item to another. The goal is to select the closest intended fit, not to treat a listed number as an exact tailoring guarantee.

  • Measure flat on a firm surface.
  • Compare the same points used by the product guide.
  • Do not stretch ribbing or soft fabric while measuring.
  • Consider both width and length, not the size label alone.

Understand the fit families

Unisex tees generally offer a straightforward everyday shape, but fabric weight changes how structured they feel. The Classic T-Shirt is more substantial, while the Softstyle, CVC, Staple, and V-Neck options are lighter. The womenโ€™s Softstyle is semi-fitted; the womenโ€™s relaxed crew-neck and v-neck options are intended to provide more room through their silhouette.

Hoodies also differ. The Heavy Blend is a familiar pullover, the Full-Zip is a relaxed layering piece, and the Relax Hoodie is intentionally oversized with dropped shoulders. The Premium Pullover carries a manufacturer note that it runs small, so its page recommends considering one size larger than usual. Treat that note as product-specific rather than applying it to every hoodie.

Plan for layers and garment weight

A tee worn on its own may need a different amount of ease than a hoodie worn over another shirt. For a zip hoodie or cold-weather pullover, compare the measurement while wearing the kind of layer that will normally sit underneath. If the recipient dislikes close cuffs, waistbands, or fitted shoulders, favor the fit description that explicitly provides more room.

Fabric weight affects feel, not just warmth. A heavier classic tee holds a more structured line, while a lightweight tee drapes and moves more easily. Those differences can change which existing garment makes the best measurement reference.

Choose gift sizes cautiously

For a surprise gift, check a label from a garment the recipient actually wears and, when possible, compare its flat measurements. A remembered size from another brand is less reliable. Also notice whether the person wears that item close, regular, or oversized; matching the style preference is as important as matching the label.

If you cannot get reliable sizing information without spoiling the surprise, consider asking someone close to the recipient. Personalized made-to-order products follow the published replacement policy, so it is better to verify before checkout than to assume ordinary retail returns apply.

Review the customized preview before checkout

Size selection and artwork placement are separate decisions, but both belong in the final review. Confirm the chosen product, color, size, quantity, and portrait preview together. A design that reads clearly on one garment color may feel different on another, and a gift is easier to get right when every selection is checked in one place.

  • Correct product and fit family selected.
  • Measurements compared with an existing garment.
  • Layering preference considered for hoodies.
  • Color, size, quantity, and portrait preview reviewed together.
  • Product-specific disclaimers read before checkout.
